Matthew LaRocca threw a four-hitter with no earned runs, 10 strikeouts and two walks for top-seeded Suffolk CC in a 3-1 win over No. 2 Nassau CC Saturday in the Region XV baseball championship game at Farmingdale State.

LaRocca hit a two-run single in the fourth to make it 2-0 for Suffolk CC (32-12). Nassau CC scored in the top of the eighth to cut it to 2-1. Anthony Repetto's RBI single drove in LaRocca in the bottom half to cap the scoring. Suffolk CC advances to the NJCAA World Series in Tyler, Texas. The first round begins May 21.

SBU sweeps Hartford. Travis Jamkowski hit a three-run triple in the sixth inning to break a tie at 1 for Stony Brook (32-10, 13-2 America East) in a 5-1 win in Game 1. Nick Tropeano went seven innings and allowed one run and four hits with six strikeouts for the win. Evan Stecko-Haley allowed two runs in seven innings to pick up the win for Stony Brook in a 3-2 victory in Game 2.

Post swept by Aquinas. Nick Compito and Casey McKay each had two hits for C.W. Post in a 3-2 loss in Game 1. Post (11-33, 9-17 ECC) lost Game 2, 6-1. James Stone allowed two runs and four hits with six strikeouts.

 

SOFTBALL

Hofstra 4, Georgia St. 1: Tessa Ziemba hit an RBI double in the sixth inning to give Hofstra (38-11, 19-1 CAA) a 2-1 lead. Georgia State is 32-22, 15-5.

Suffolk CC 3, Nassau CC 0: Suffolk completed a three-game tournament sweep to win the Region XV championship for the third consecutive year. Tournament MVP Christina Seppi got two wins over 11 innings pitched. She allowed two hits, two walks, no earned runs and struck out 12 for Suffolk CC (21-18), which will play in Minnesota in the national tournament in two weeks.
