Laurent, Velazquez lead St. Joseph's men
Olivier Laurent had 22 points, six assists and three steals and Steve Velazquez had 21 points, six rebounds and four blocks to lead St. Joseph's (L.I.) over Sage College, 93-85, Saturday in a Skyline Conference men's basketball game.
Barry Ingram added 15 points and four steals and Trey Black had five points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Eagles (5-1, 2-0). Derick Faragon had 22 points and 13 rebounds for Sage (2-5, 0-3).
USMMA 83, Drew 75: Matt Hueber had 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead USMMA (3-3, 1-0 Landmark). Michael Farace and Tom Izzo each had 11 points. Asmar Capers scored 20 points for Drew (2-3, 0-1).
Mount St. Mary's 73, SUNY-Old Westbury 72: Kevin Milella (24 points) hit a free throw with five seconds left to give Mount St. Mary's (3-3, 2-1 Skyline) a four-point lead and Craig Wilson hit a three with a second remaining for Old Westbury. Senior Frantz Granjean scored a career-high 24 points and had 10 rebounds for the Panthers (1-3, 1-2).
Post University (Conn.) 73, Nassau CC 66: Larry Grant had 22 points for Post (3-2). Chris Mauldin scored 23 points for Nassau CC (4-3).
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
St. John's 66, Boston University 42: Centhya Hart had 15 points and seven rebounds and Da'Shena Stevens had 15 points and three assists to lead St. John's (7-1). Shenneika Smith added nine points, seven rebounds, five steals and four assists. Alex Young had 11 points and five assists for Boston University (2-6).
American International 59, Adelphi 55: Michelle Lafond scored 16 points and Rhea Pascal had seven points and 20 rebounds to lead American International (6-2, 4-1 NE-10). Ashley Caiafa had 17 points and Kara Tancredi 12 for Adelphi (2-4, 1-4). Tancredi's layup had pulled Adelphi within two with nine seconds left, but Lafond sealed it with two free throws.
Dowling 65, C.W. Post 57: Sarah Schicher scored 19 points for Dowling (3-3, 2-1 ECC). Janea Aiken had 23 points, six rebounds and four assists for Post (3-3, 1-1).
Sage College 65, St. Joseph's (L.I.) 61: Sarah Carciobolo had 20 points for Sage (2-4, 1-2 Skyline). Chelsea Lynch had 14 points and Ashley Larrea had six points and 14 rebounds for St. Joseph's (1-4, 0-2).
Brooklyn College 77, Briarcliffe 65: Ariel Smith scored 23 points to lead Brooklyn (4-2). Ifeanyi Ofili had 25 points and Simone Thomas added 15 points and 16 rebounds for Briarcliffe (3-3).
