Here’s an update on what the 2023 Newsday All-Long Island first-team baseball selections are doing at the college level. (Stats as of Friday)

Erik Paulsen, 1B/P, Stony Brook (Massapequa): The 2023 Nassau Player of the Year is batting .303 with an .863 OPS. Paulsen has three homers, eight doubles and 15 RBIs. He also has made nine appearances out of the bullpen, owning a 2-0 record with a 1.71 ERA in 26 ⅓ innings. Paulsen was named the Coastal Athletic Association Rookie of the Week twice in March.

Chris Carson, OF, Stony Brook (Lindenhurst): Carson has played in 18 games and started 12, including the last four in centerfield. He is hitting .208 with one homer and 10 RBIs. He has seven walks and two stolen bases.

Thomas Charlwood, P/OF, Molloy (Lindenhurst): Charlwood, who has made one start in rightfield, is 3-for-9 with one double and three RBIs. He has struck out nine in four relief appearances, and has a 2.57 ERA in seven innings.

Brady Clark, P, St. John’s (Bayport-Blue Point): Clark has yet to take the mound for St. John’s, which is 22-5-1 this season. Clark, the 2023 Suffolk League VIII MVP, had a 7-1 record with a 1.35 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 57 innings last season.

Jason DeCaro, P, North Carolina (St. Anthony’s): DeCaro is a consistent weekend starter for the 13th-ranked Tar Heels, boasting a 1-1 record with a 4.20 ERA and 36 strikeouts in a team-high 40 ⅔ innings. He has a .235 batting average against, the lowest among UNC’s starters.

Andrew Koshy, P, Wake Forest (Kellenberg): Koshy has struck out four and allowed four earned runs in five innings in eight appearances for the 14th-ranked Demon Deacons. Koshy, last season's NSCHSAA Pitcher of the Year, went 5-0 with 49 strikeouts and a 0.56 ERA for Kellenberg.

Chris McHugh, IF, Virginia Commonwealth (Commack): McHugh has been a mainstay in Year One at VCU, making 30 starts (primarily at first base) and batting in the middle of the order. Last year’s Suffolk League I MVP is batting .257 with a homer and 15 RBIs for the Atlantic 10-leading Rams.

James Sill, IF/P, Old Westbury (Division): Making a two-way impact as a freshman, Sill is batting .298 with a .936 OPS, four homers and 16 RBIs in 47 at-bats. Last year’s Diamond Award winner as Nassau’s top pitcher is 1-5 (six starts) with a 11.17 ERA in 19 ⅓ innings. Has struck out 19.

Charlie West, P, Connecticut (Ward Melville): West has six strikeouts and a 7.36 ERA in 3 ⅔ innings (six relief appearances). West had a 6-1 record with 97 strikeouts in 54 ⅓ innings at Ward Melville last season, receiving the Paul Gibson Award recipient as Suffolk’s top pitcher.

SECOND-TEAM STANDOUTS

Sean Britt, C/OF, Towson (South Side): Britt has made 10 starts for the Tigers, six at catcher and four at designated hitter. He is batting .214 with a home run and three RBIs in 28 at-bats.

Dominick Carbone, P, Coastal Carolina (Rocky Point): Carbone has a 4-1 record in 12 appearances out of the bullpen for the 20th-ranked Chanticleers. He has a 2.82 ERA and has struck out 24 in 22 ⅓ innings. Opponents are hitting .203 against him.

Charlie Imhof, IF, Molloy (Calhoun): Imhof is batting .500 with two homers, two doubles, two stolen bases and a 1.320 OPS in 34 at-bats. He has appeared in 20 games (four starts).

Justin LeGuernic, P, Clemson (Half Hollow Hills West): LeGuernic has made eight appearances, including one start, for the second-ranked Tigers. He has a 5.40 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 6 ⅔ innings.

Anthony Scarabino, OF, Albany (Connetquot): Scarabino is batting .200 with two extra-base hits — a double and a triple — and seven RBIs in 35 at-bats for the Great Danes. He has made nine starts, eight in rightfield and one in leftfield.

Joe Yovino, C, Elon (Division): Yovino has appeared in 11 games (three starts) for the Phoenix. He is batting .250 with an RBI and a run scored in 12 at-bats.
