McBride, Campbell lead Stony Brook, 12-9

Jordan McBride scored four goals and Robbie Campbell added three Saturday as the No. 14 Stony Brook men's lacrosse team beat Vermont, 12-9, in Burlington, Vt., for its sixth straight victory.

The Seawolves (9-3, 5-0) clinched an undefeated America East Conference regular season for the second straight year. Top-seeded Stony Brook will host an America East Tournament semifinal game at 7 p.m. Wednesday against fourth-seeded Binghamton (7-7, 3-2).

"Now we're looking forward to Wednesday," said coach Rick Sowell, whose team built an 11-4 lead and held on. "Give Vermont a lot of credit. They haven't quit all year, and that's a testament to their coaching staff and players. I'll take a win any day."

McBride scored three of his four goals in the first quarter. He has 31 goals and six assists this year and extended his career total to 165 goals, tied for 16th in Division I history with Doug Knight of Virginia. His 29 career hat tricks lead active players.

Campbell (17 goals, nine assists) had two of his three goals in the second quarter, giving him 11 goals in his last four games.

Kevin Crowley had a goal and three assists for Stony Brook, upping his career-point total to 224, tops among active Division I players. He has 26 goals and 22 assists this season.

Timmy Trenkle had a goal and two assists, giving the senior a career-best 24 points (18 goals, six assists) this season.

After Campbell's goal at 9:58 of the second quarter gave Stony Brook a 7-3 lead, Tom Frasca's goal off the faceoff was as close as Vermont got until its final goal of the game. Goals by McBride, Trenkle, Campbell and Graham Adams gave the Seawolves an 11-4 lead with 11:44 left.

Rob Camposa had 13 saves, nine in the second half, as Stony Brook extended its record against Vermont to 11-0.

"Our senior class has led us to this point," Sowell said. "Jordan and Kevin and Rob have played such key roles for us this year."

Geoff Worley led Vermont (6-9, 1-4) with two goals and two assists.
