McBride scores eight goals to pace Stony Brook lacrosse win
Jordan McBride had eight goals and two assists to lead Stony Brook (1-0) over Siena, 21-14, Saturday in men's lacrosse.
McBride, a junior, set school records with six goals in the first half and five in the second quarter. Kevin Crowley added four goals and tied a school record with five assists in the first half. Adam Rand was 29-for-39 on faceoffs.
Bryan Neufeld had seven goals and an assist for Siena (0-1).
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Hofstra 21, St. Mary's (Calif.) 3: Senior Corrine Gandolfi had two goals, including the 100th of her career, and two assists to lead Hofstra (1-0). Jackie Ardolino and Lauren Chandler each scored three goals in their collegiate debuts. St. Mary's is 0-2.
Stony Brook 16, Duquesne 8: Junior Melissa Cook scored a career-high five goals to lead Stony Brook (1-2). Samantha Djaha and Courtney Bertolone each had three goals. Duquesne is 0-1.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALLMount St. Mary 68, Farmingdale State 43: Shannon Sangster had 16 points and Catie Biordi 12 points and eight rebounds for Mount St. Mary (21-4, 17-1), which clinched a share of the regular-season Skyline title. Kimberly Blakney had 19 points and 11 rebounds for Farmingdale State (23-1, 17-1), which lost its first game.
Molloy 68, C.W. Post 61: Lisa Claxton had 17 points and three steals and Caitlin Wheeler 11 points and seven rebounds to lead Molloy (16-7, 13-5 ECC). Janea Aiken had 20 points, five assists and three steals for C.W. Post (18-7, 13-6).
MEN'S BASKETBALLC.W. Post 79, Molloy 50: Jonathan Kohler scored 19 points and Aaron Hall 14 to lead C.W. Post (20-5, 16-3 ECC), which won its 41st straight home game. It is the Pioneers' third straight season with at least 20 wins. Edward Freeman had 14 points for Molloy (11-15, 9-10).
SUNY-Old Westbury 95, Sage 75: Lester Prosper had 25 points and 13 rebounds to lead Old Westbury (19-6, 17-3 Skyline), which clinched its first Skyline title since 2003-04. Patrick Bonna added 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Mervin Springer had 22 points for Sage (7-18, 5-15).SOFTBALLHofstra 2, Michigan State 1: Freshman Olivia Galati threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks and knocked in both runs for Hofstra (3-0). Her RBI single in the seventh was the winner. Michigan State is 3-5.
BOWLING
Nassau CC advances to nationals. Darren Andretta had a 242 average to lead Nassau CC in the Region XV championship. Nassau will bowl in the nationals, beginning March 4 in Buffalo. Nassau CC toppled 13,500 pins to finish ahead of Suffolk CC. Rockland CC was third.
