Mercado penalty kick lifts Old Westbury
Diego Mercado scored on a penalty kick with two minutes left to lift Old Westbury in a 4-3 win over St. Joseph's in a rematch of the 2009 Skyline mens soccer championship yesterday.
Anthony Ippolito scored two goals in the first half to give Old Westbury a 3-1 lead at the half. Pablo Diaz recorded five saves to improve for Old Westbury (3-0). St. Joseph's moves to 1-2 in conference.
Farmingdale State 2, NYU Polytech 1: Brian Anderson scored on a penalty kick with 8:00 left in the second overtime for Farmingdale State (1-2) in Skyline. Farmingdale tied the game with an own goal with 19:40 left in the second half.Southern New Hampshire University 2, Dowling 0:Jon Brockway scored on an assist from Michael Adam four minutes into the first to lead Southern New Hampshire (7-0-1). Dowling is 4-1-1. Adelphi 2, Franklin Pierce 1:Theresa Murphy scored with 1:44 remaining to give Adelphi (4-3) a 2-1 lead in non-conference. Jeanette Heimerle added a goal and an assist for Adelphi.
MEN'S GOLF
Farmingdale wins invite. Chris Arnold shot a tournament low 2-over 72 as the Farmingdale State men's golf team shot a 302 to capture its Invitational on Bethpage Red. The Rams' Adam Larkin tied for second with 73 with St. Joseph's Matt Ranum.
