Stony Brook's top-ranked defense won its battle with Albany's high-powered offense as the visiting Seawolves earned an 8-4 women's lacrosse victory and took sole possession of first place in the America East Conference Saturday.

Michelle Rubino had two goals and an assist for Stony Brook (12-2, 3-0).

Albany (10-2, 2-1) entered the game averaging 15.7 goals per game.
