The Molloy men took the East Coast Conference tournament title, and the Molloy women repeated. These two soccer teams are going to the NCAAs in D-II for the second time, but for the first time at the same time.

"To both win a title in the same season is incredible for the school and the community and the guys and the girls," men’s coach Tyler Botte said. "It really is an awesome experience."

The women (17-2), who went in 2019 and now own the program’s single-season record for wins, received the No. 2 seed in the East Regional Monday.

"We’re very, very happy," coach Steve Price said.

They will host Bridgeport (11-6-1) Thursday at Rockville Centre Sports Complex.

"I think we’ve got the best goalkeeper in the region," Price said of East Islip’s Jackie Carty. "… Our defense is very, very good. The front four do their job. The two sitting at midfield do their job well. They’re just a good unit."

The men (9-6-5), who last won the ECC and went to the NCAAs in 2008, got the 10th seed in Super Region 1. They will face No. 7 American International (14-4-1) Friday at Charleston of West Virginia, the opponent for the winner.

"It’s a pretty local group," Botte, a 29-year-old North Babylon native whose first season was canceled due to the pandemic, said of his Lions. "So to kind of compete at the national stage (after winning) the conference is pretty amazing."
