Nassau CC wins NJCAA district title game
Ryan Quinn scored three goals, Zack Goldback had two goals and one assist and Kyle Hughes had three assists to lead Nassau CC to a 12-7 win over Brookdale CC yesterday in men's lacrosse in the NJCAA District Championship Game.
The win qualifies Nassau CC (13-3) for next week's Final Four in Herkimer NY, a tournament that Nassau CC has appeared in every year -- except 2007 -- since 1970.
Nassau has won 21 national championships. Ben Coiro and Tom Laviano each scored two goals in the win. Brookdale CC is 8-5. C.W. Post 13, Molloy 2: Nick Coric had five goals and two assists and Eddie Plompen had three goals and three assists for C.W. Post (16-1, 9-1 ECC), which won its third consecutive East Coast Conference title. Molloy is 5-10, 3-7.
Syracuse 20, St. John's 6: Tommy Palasek had two goals and two assists as No.1 Syracuse (14-1, 6-0) got points from 14 different players in Big East lacrosse. Jo Jo Marasco, Stephen Keogh, Joel White and Derek Maltz each had two goals for the Orange.
Kevin Cernuto had two goals, Colin Keegan added a goal and an assist and Dillon Ayers had two assists for St. John's (4-10, 2-4).
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Dowling 15, C.W. Post 14: Kelly Cefalu scored with 2:19 left in triple overtime to lift Dowling (14-2, 7-0 ECC). Nicole Moran scored seven goals, Cassandra Cronin had three goals and two assists, and Rachael Goldstein made 11 saves. C.W. Post is 13-4, 7-1.
Abbie Ross scored with 1:04 left in the first overtime before Nicolle Moran scored with 34 seconds remaining in the second overtime to tie the score at 14-14 tie forcing a sudden death third overtime.
Adelphi 24, Merrimack 10: Claire Petersen had three goals and 11 assists and Demmianne Cook added five goals and had three assists to lead top-seeded Adelphi (17-0) over No. 4 Merrimack (12-7) in a Northeast-10 semifinal. Erica Devito scored six goals for Adelphi, which will host No. 2 LeMoyne at noon today in the finals.
