NCAA suspends eight Miami players

The NCAA announced today that eight Miami (Fla.) players have been suspended for receiving improper benefits from former booster Nevin Shapiro.

The players will have to sit out games and must repay the benefits in order to be eligible.

Defensive lineman Olivier Vernon, who the NCAA said in its report received more than $1,200 worth of benefits from Shapiro, will miss six games.

The NCAA suspended defensive back Ray-Ray Armstrong ($788 in benefits) and tight end Dyron Dye ($738 in benefits) four games each.

The NCAA suspended the following five players one game each: defensive lineman Marcus Fortson ($400 in benefits), star linebacker Sean Spence ($275 in benefits), defensive lineman Adewale Ojomo ($240 in benefits), wide receiver Travis Benjamin ($150 in benefits) and starting quarterback Jacory Harris ($140 in benefits).

The NCAA investigation is ongoing.
