Post loses first game at Softball Series
C.W. Post dropped its first game of the NCAA Division II College Softball World Series yesterday at Moyer Sports complex in Salem, Va., 7-0, to UC-San Diego. The Tritons scored five runs in the fifth inning as starting pitcher Camille Gaito threw a two-hitter with eight strikeouts to stymie the Pioneers' bats.
Post starter Christina Berardi threw two innings, allowing five walks and two unearned runs before Sarah Kiser was brought in for relief. Kiser pitched five innings and allowed five runs (three earned). Post made a season-high seven errors.
Leading 5-0 in the top of the seventh, San Diego had a pair of RBI singles to provide the margin of victory.
Post (41-15) plays Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) at noon Saturday in an elimination game. The Tritons improved to 42-13.
UC-San Diego will play Minnesota State-Mankato in a winner's bracket game at 4 p.m. Friday.
