Three former Long Island high school lacrosse stars, two men and one woman, are among the finalists for the 2013 Tewaaraton Trophy awarded annually to the outstanding men's and women's college lacrosse players in the country.
Cornell's Rob Pannell (Smithtown West) and Princeton's Tom Schreiber (St. Anthony's) are among the five men's finalists, while Syracuse's Alyssa Murray (West Babylon) is one of five women's finalists. The awards will be presented at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on May 30.
Pannell, a senior attack and 2011 Tewaaraton finalist who missed nearly all of 2012 with an injury, ranks third in the nation in points per game (5.36) and fourth in assists per game (2.93). He is the third-leading scorer in men's Division I history with 332 points and is the Cornell and Ivy League all-time scoring leader.
Schreiber, a junior midfielder, led Princeton in scoring for a third consecutive season. A team captain, Schreiber scored 60 points (28 goals, 32 assists). He earned first-team All-Ivy honors for a third straight season and scored at least three points in every game this year.
Murray, a junior attack, ranks 10th in the nation in points per game (4.74) and has 90 points (56 goals, 34 assists). She was a unanimous first-team All-Big East selection and named the conference's Attack Player of the Year. She ranks fifth in career goals, assists and points at Syracuse.
