Source: SBU to hire Colgate coach Nagle
Colgate coach Jim Nagle, who starred at Ward Melville High School in the 1980s, will be named the men's lacrosse coach at Stony Brook University, a person familiar with the hiring process said Sunday.
Nagle's hiring is to be formally announced at a news conference Tuesdayon campus. Recently hired women's lacrosse coach Joe Spallina also will be introduced.
Nagle was 86-64 in 10 seasons at Colgate, including 11-5 in 2011 for the 12th-ranked Raiders. In 2008, he guided Colgate to the Patriot League championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Nagle started his coaching career as an assistant at his alma mater, Loyola in Baltimore.
He was an All-County selection in high school and played for Ward Melville's 1988 state championship team, which went 24-0.
Nagle replaces Rick Sowell, who left the Seawolves to become the head coach at Navy.
