COLLEGE HOOPSHarris leads Tennessee
Tobias Harris of Dix Hills scored 21 points and Scotty Hopson had 19 as No. 13 Tennessee cruised to an 86-56 home victory over Middle Tennessee State last night. The Vols are 6-0.
Stony Brook women lose
Kirsten Jeter had 18 points and nine rebounds as the Stony Brook women's basketball team lost to Monmouth, 74-60. Taylor Burner had 11 points. Stony Brook is 2-3.
Brees named top sportsman
Drew Brees was honored as Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year for his championship on the field and his charity off it. The quarterback led the long-suffering New Orleans Saints to their first Super Bowl title in February, lifting the spirits of the hurricane-battered city. But the magazine noted he's done much more than inspire with his brilliant play. Since Brees joined the Saints in 2006 months after Hurricane Katrina, his foundation has worked with nearly 50 New Orleans schools and organizations to aid in recovery.
NFL ticket refund plan
The NFL will offer full refunds to fans with general admission tickets if games are canceled next season because of a lockout. Each team will determine its policies for club seats, suites and payments for personal seat licenses, the league said. Season-ticket holders can choose to receive a refund or credits toward future games. Fans with individual game tickets can receive a refund or exchange the tickets for future games, with some restrictions.
NBARondo leads Celtics
Rajon Rondo scored a season-high 23 points with 12 assists to lead the Boston Celtics to their fourth straight win, 106-87, over host Cleveland. - AP
