St. John's loses Casper Pohto for the season
St. John’s freshman Casper Pohto will miss the remainder of the season because of a hip injury that will require surgery, the school announced on Tuesday.
The 6-3 guard from Sweden will have the surgery on Friday and the recovery period for it is six to eight months.
Pohto appeared in six games for the 22nd-ranked Red Storm (5-3) and played an aggregate 27 minutes in them. He totaled two points, four rebounds and an assist. He played his last season of high school basketball at Sunrise Christian Academy (Kansas), had a campus visit at St. John’s in the first week of June and signed soon after.
Pohto is the second Storm player lost for the season to injury. Imran Suljanovic, a freshman guard from Austria, was lost for the year to a knee injury before the season started.
The Storm next play Iona on Saturday at the Garden.
