Commack native Samantha Prahalis-Holmes has joined the St. John’s women’s basketball team’s coaching staff.

Prahalis-Holmes, a 2012 WNBA first-round selection, will serve as the Director of Player Development and Advanced Scouting for the program. She was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for two seasons at James Madison before joining the St. John’s staff.

Prahalis-Holmes, a two-time Newsday Player of the Year in 2007-08 for Commack High School, played point guard for four years at Ohio State and led the Buckeyes to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances. She was drafted sixth overall by the Phoenix Mercury.

She coached two years at Ward Melville High School and one season at North Babylon High School before advancing to the college level.
