Stavola no-hitter spurs Dowling over C.W. Post in ECC softball
Jessie Stavola struck out 16 and walked two in a no-hitter and Emily Stack hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth as Dowling topped C.W. Post, 3-0, on the second day of the ECC softball tournament Friday. No. 18 Post dropped to 40-14.
In an earlier game, Stephanie Tarango went 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs as Dowling (40-15) beat New York Tech (33-23), 8-0.
Dowling will host Molloy in the ECC championship game at noon Saturday. Third-seeded Molloy hasn't lost, so Dowling needs to win twice to capture the championship.
BASEBALL
C.W. Post 7, Molloy 5:Pete Budkevics struck out seven and allowed four runs in six innings for C.W. Post (30-14) in an ECC tournament game. Budkevics improved to 8-1 for the Pioneers, who posted their third 30-win season. Mike Callaghan went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs for the Pioneers. Post advances to the ECC championship game Saturday at noon and will face the winner of Molloy vs. Mercer.
