Stony Brook to play Coastal Carolina
America East baseball champion Stony Brook University (29-25) will play Coastal Carolina (51-7) Friday in the Division I NCAA Baseball Championship.
Seeded fourth in the Myrtle Beach Regional, Stony Brook will face the top-seed and host Chanticllers at BB&T Coastal Field. Also joining Stony Brook in the regional will be North Carolina State and College of Charleston.
Stony Brook lost to Coastal Carolina by scores of 9-0 and 36-3 in the 2009 season. "I think it’s just like in any sport, you have to have a short memory,’’ first baseman Rob Dyer said. ``I think this year with our pitching we have a shot against anybody.’’
Stony Brook gained an automatic bid into the field of 64 by defeating Albany last week. Coastal Carolina won its fourth straight Big South Championship with an 8-2 victory over Liberty. Coastal's win total is a Big South single season record. Its top pitcher is sophomore right-hander Anthony Meo, who was 12-1 with a 1.73 earned run average.
Big East champion St. John’s (40-18) 40-18) will meet Mississippi (38-22) in the Charlottesville Regional.
