Matt Larson scored 35 seconds into the second overtime to give Bryant a 10-9 men's lacrosse victory over Stony Brook Saturday in Smithfield, R.I.
Redshirt freshman Mike Rooney had his third hat trick of the season plus an assist for Stony Brook (1-7), which has lost four games by one goal, one game by two and one game by three. Nick Watson added two goals. Rooney has 14 goals and three assists in eight games.
After trailing 5-2, 6-3 and 7-4, Stony Brook went ahead 8-7 on a goal by sophomore defensive midfielder Cole Millican. Russ Bonnano had tied the score at 7-7 with his 11th goal of the season.
After going scoreless for more than 24 minutes, Bryant (5-2) answered with a goal in transition to tie it.
The Seawolves went ahead 9-8 after goalie Sean Brady saved a shot by Bryant's Alex Zomerfeld and found long-stick midfielder JJ Laforet, who capped a fast-break opportunity with his first career goal in 31 games.
But after a Stony Brook turnover, Bryant's Colin Dunster scored his 18th goal of the season with 16 seconds left in regulation to make it 9-9. Brady stopped Dunster with two seconds left to send the game into overtime.
Brady, who finished with 10 saves after relieving Ryan Keneally (five saves) to start the third quarter, made two sensational saves in the first overtime, one on Dunster and one on Travis Harrington.
"Sean was terrific for us in the second half,'' Stony Brook coach Jim Nagle said. "We struggled with some defensive lapses in the first half, but that's not an excuse. We're eight games into this season. But I still think we're heading into the right direction going into conference play.''
Stony Brook hosts Vermont at 1 p.m. Saturday to begin America East play.
Larson, Dunster, Peter McMahon and Bo Redpath had two goals each for Bryant. McMahon and Mason Poli each had two assists.
