pitches no-hitter

Alyssa Struzenberg tossed a five-inning no-hitter with eight strikeouts and three walks as Stony Brook started its softball season with a 14-0 win over Toledo in the first game of a split doubleheader in the Charlotte First Pitch Classic. Bernadette Tenuto had a three-run homer and five RBIs in the win. Tenuto went 1-for-4 in a 5-2 loss to Charlotte in the second game.

St. John's splits. Chelsea Durning went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Stacia Dopudja had a hit and two RBIs as St. John's (2-1) took the second game of a split doubleheader against Youngstown State, 10-4. In Game 1, the Red Storm fell, 16-2, to No. 16 Louisville.

Hofstra 12, North Dakota 11: Trisha Dreslinski scored from second on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth to win it for Hofstra (1-0). Former St. John the Baptist standout Oliva Galati had the tying single with two outs in the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings. Laura Valentino went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs for Hofstra.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE Adelphi 20, Rollins 7: Elizabeth Fey had four goals and two assists and Claire Petersen three goals and one assist to lead Adelphi (1-0) in its season opener. Goalie Caitlin Fitzpatrick had 14 saves.
