The Western Athletic Conference announced on Thursday that the University of Denver, the University of Texas at San Antonio and Texas State University will join the conference on Jan. 1, 2012.

Denver does not play football. With the additions of Texas-San Antonio and Texas State, the WAC will have eight football schools beginning in 2012.

Boise State will leave the WAC and join the Mountain West in 2011. Fresno State and Nevada will also depart for the Mountain West in 2012.

Interestingly, the Texas-San Antonio team will be coached by former Miami (Fla.) head coach Larry Coker.
