WBB: Pride lets one go, but there is hope

Hofstra let one get away last weekend, but all indications are that this is a squad that is on the rise.
The Pride (2-3) lost a heartbreaker, 77-72 (OT), to an undefeated Virginia Tech squad on Saturday night. Annie Payton had 20 points and Anma Onyeuku had 17 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
An early win over Robert Morris and a victory over a Fordham squad fresh off a 20-plus win season could be proof that the Pride will make strides when CAA play begins.
“We let one slip away in our house tonight. But we got better in a lot of areas,” said Pride coach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey. “It’s just unfortunate it wasn’t quite enough.”
Although the effort was valiant, Kilburn-Steveskey, who has led the Pride to three WNIT appearances in seven full seasons, doesn’t want to hear about moral victories.
“We don’t take moral victories,” said Kilburn-Steveskey. “We’ve beaten good teams and this is one that was ours. We’ll learn from it and move on.”
Hofstra returns to action on Dec. 2 against Concordia College at the Mack Sports Complex.
