Ziemba, Michalowski lead Hofstra sweep
Tessa Ziemba hit a two-out, two-run single in the top of the seventh inning to break a tie at 1 and give Hofstra a 3-1 win over Drexel in Game 1 yesterday of a softball doubleheader. Ziemba went 3-for-5 with two doubles. Olivia Galati struck out 10 in the win. Sara Michalowski was 3-for-3 with an RBI in a 6-3 Game 2 win for Hofstra (16-8, 2-0 CAA). Drexel is 7-12, 0-2.
C.W. Post sweeps.Nicole Hagenah had four RBIs, including a three-run homer in the fifth inning and Sarah Kiser struck out 11 in five innings to lead C.W. Post (8-4, 2-0 ECC) over Saint Thomas Aquinas (4-6, 0-2), 8-0, in Game 1. C.W. Post won Game 2, 6-1.
Farmingdale State wins two.
Hope Zino struck out 13, and Madison Snyder was 1-for-3 with three RBIs for Farmingdale State (12-2, 2-0 Skyline) in an 8-3 win over The Sage Colleges in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Farmingdale State won Game 2, 7-2. SUNY-Old Westbury splits. Nicole Petrucci went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs for SUNY-Old Westbury (3-5, 1-1 Skyline) in a 6-3 win over Mount Saint Mary (8-3-1, 1-1) in Game 2. Old Westbury lost the first game, 5-0.
BASEBALL
Hofstra 3, Towson 1: T.J. Thomas hit a three-run double in the second inning for Hofstra (4-13, 4-4 CAA). Towson is 6-16-1, 2-6.
Dowling 2, C.W. Post 1: Andrew Abreu scored on an error with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to win it for Dowling (5-9, 1-0 ECC). Gabriel Duran went seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits, three walks, and struck out 10 for Dowling. C.W. Post is 1-17, 0-1.
Farmingdale State sweeps. David Zilnicki hit a two-run double in the top of the 11th for Farmingdale State (9-7, 3-1 Skyline) in a 7-5 Game 2 win over SUNY-Old Westbury (4-10, 0-4). The Rams won Game 1, 6-0.
