Glauber: Jets' Revis eager to face new Dolphin Marshall

FLORHAM PARK, N.J.

When Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis heard that the Broncos had traded Brandon Marshall to the Dolphins on Wednesday, he immediately sent the Pro Bowl receiver a text offering his best wishes.

"I know him well, and I just said congratulations on everything,'' Revis said Thursday during a break from his workout routine at the Jets' training complex. "He said thanks, and I said I'll see you during the season.''

Darrelle, say hello to the latest visitor to Revis Island, that place where receivers disappear on Sunday afternoons.

Revis was challenged last year by big-time receivers Andre Johnson, Randy Moss, Chad Ochocinco, Lee Evans, Marques Colston and Mike Sims-Walker, and he dominated them all in one of the most extraordinary seasons ever by a cornerback. Had it not been for Packers cornerback Charles Woodson's dynamic performances, Revis would have been a runaway choice for NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Instead, he wound up the runner-up to Woodson.

But maybe a pair of meetings this year against Marshall, who has had three straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons and might be the most talented receiver in the NFL, will be enough to push Revis over the top.

Revis welcomes the challenge from his good friend.

"It's another thing with a big-time receiver in the AFC East,'' said Revis, who has known Marshall for about three years. "It's good for Miami. They needed a big-time receiver, and I get to play him twice. That's the good thing about it.''

No worries on Revis' part. None whatsoever.

"Y'all know me,'' he said. "I love competition. I love to compete, no matter who steps up, whoever comes to this conference, whoever leaves this conference. I'm that type of guy, and our team is that type of team. We don't care what happens. We'll make our offseason acquisitions, too. We see it and it's like, 'OK, we'll see you on Sunday.' ''

Love the attitude. Revis couldn't care less who the opponent is, no matter how good. The better the player, the more Revis relishes the opportunity. The word scared is not in this man's vocabulary.

And Marshall is only too willing to join the fray. The two faced each other once in 2008, when the 6-4, 230-pounder had five catches for 55 yards in Denver's 34-17 win. But that was before Revis was used exclusively on the top receiver, as he now is in Rex Ryan's system.

Marshall met with reporters Thursday for the first time since the trade, and was asked about going up against Revis.

"As for Revis Island, I'm not sure where that is,'' he said. "Where is Revis Island? Well, I just got married, so maybe we'll honeymoon there.''

Revis vs. Marshall. Bring it on, fellas. This is going to be a good one for years to come.
