Jason Taylor likes Mark Sanchez's situation
Retired DE Jason Taylor thinks former teammate Mark Sanchez is in a perfect spot with the Eagles. Taylor played on the 2010 Jets team that went to the AFC Championship Game, and he likens this year's Eagles team to the '10 Jets. "When I played with Mark in 2010, we had a really good football team. He was able to manage the game as opposed to go out and carry a team to a victory, and I think he has the same situation here in Philadelphia now,'' Taylor said on NBC's "Pro Football Talk." "A good football team with a nice offensive line, a good running back in LeSean McCoy, and guys on the outside that can make plays in [Jeremy] Maclin and [Riley] Cooper. All he has to do is plug it in."
Cardinals re-up Carson
Very good move by Arizona to resolve Carson Palmer's contract situation before the end of the season. General manager Steve Keim announced Friday that the team has agreed to a three-year, $50-million deal to keep Palmer off the free-agent market.
Palmer, 34, joined the Cardinals in 2013 and made an immediate impact. The Cardinals barely missed the playoffs last season and now are 7-1 and in first place in the highly competitive NFC West. Last year, he threw for a career-high 4,274 yards, becoming the first player in NFL history to throw for more than 4,000 yards with three different teams. Cincinnati and Oakland were the others.
Gronk boosts Pats' offense
Tom Brady has 22 touchdown passes in his first nine games, only three fewer than he threw all last season. A big reason for his improved performance: a healthy Rob Gronkowski. With Gronkowski overcoming back and knee problems that limited him the previous two seasons, the Patriots' offense has been almost unstoppable, especially in their five-game winning streak. The tight end has 49 catches for 663 yards and eight TDs for the 7-2 Patriots.
"He's a big part of what we do and a big part of our pass game,'' Brady said. "He's a factor in all those situations that we talk about, whether that's third down, red area, those real critical down and distances. I think he's a major factor.''
