Gregg Sarra picks Top 10 winter sports teams
1. GLENN WRESTLING The Knights won their second straight Suffolk championship with 213.5 points. Nick Meinsen (130 pounds) and Nick Terdick (152), the Knights' only two finalists, each won Suffolk titles. It was Meinsen's second title in as many seasons. He and Terdick will represent Glenn at the NYSPHSAA wrestling championships in Albany in two weeks. Of the 18 Knights who qualified for the county tournament, a meet-high 10 placed in the top 6, earning All County honors.
2. HALF HOLLOW HILLS WEST BOYS BASKETBALL The Colts (18-0) had their toughest game of the season on Sunday, holding off Christ the King in the Prime Time Shootout, 73-69, to complete an undefeated regular season. The League IV champions' goal of reaching Glens Falls for the first time in school history begins Friday when the No. 1 seed in Class AA hosts a first-round playoff game.
3. HALF HOLLOW HILLS BOYS SWIMMING With their win at Suffolk-CC Brentwood, Hills has now gone undefeated in dual-meets, league championships and county championships for four straight years, setting themselves up as the premier boys swimming power in Suffolk. Matt DeBlasio, a standout during the regular season, was the spark--both in terms of leadership and results--that guaranteed them the four-peat.
4. HAUPPAUGE WRESTLING The Eagles finished second at the Suffolk tournament for the third straight year, 47.5 points behind Glenn. Mark West (96 pounds) and Kevin Panebianco (135) each won individual titles, while Jesse Marro (145) placed second after losing a tight 3-2 match against defending state champion Andy Rodriguez of Central Islip. Eight Hauppauge wrestlers placed in the top 6, earning All County honors.
5. LONGWOOD BOYS BASKETBALL The Lions, led by guards Darien Davis and Tajric Boggs, wrapped up the first unbeaten league season in school history with an 83-63 victory over Patchogue-Medford. The League I champions earned the No. 2 seed in the Class AA bracket and begin the playoffs by hosting No. 15 Smithtown East on Friday.
6. WARD MELVILLE GIRLS FENCING The undefeated Patriots finished the season with a 12-0 record and earned the school's ninth straight Suffolk championship.
7. NORTH BABYLON GIRLS BASKETBALL North Babylon ended its regular season with a 91-30 win over East Islip. UConn-bound Bria Hartley had 34 points, five assists and five steals. She was named to the McDonald's All-American team and the WBCA All-American game last week. North Babylon is the top seed in the Suffolk Class AA playoffs and will the host the winner of Brentwood-Riverhead in the quarterfinals on Feb. 24.
8. GREAT NECK SOUTH BOYS SWIMMING An off week for GNS as the team's state qualifying swimmers prepare for their upcoming tests at the tournament. Great Neck South went undefeated in dual meets, league championships and county championships for the second straight year, winning the Nassau Championships with a score of 425 points.
9. MIDDLE COUNTRY GIRLS BOWLING The Cougarines are making their debut in the BIG 10 after finishing the season with an undefeated league record and beating powerhouse East Islip in the county championships.
10. ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST BOYS BASKETBALL The Cougars make their debut in the BIG 10 this week. The Cougars beat Kellenberg, 72-68, to stay undefeated in the CHSAA at 10-0. Joe Gibbons and Khaleev Ginyard led the way. They have a very tough test tonight when they host Chaminade, which has won seven in a row.

Athletes of the Week
Stephen Dutton, Hauppauge: The 140-pound senior won his fourth Suffolk title, pinning Riverhead's Edwin Perry in 3:35. In the semifinals, Dutton eclipsed the Long Island wins record held by 2000 Shoreham-Wading River graduate Jesse Jantzen. Dutton now has 223 career victories.
Daniel Cataldi, Great Neck South: The 140-pound senior defeated defending Nassau champion Dylan Palacio of Long Beach, 9-4, to earn Most Outstanding Wrestler and Champion of Champions honors.
Jon Ward-Adams, Center Moriches: The coach's son, a senior, scored a career-high 40 points and added five assists in a victory over Mercy for the League VII champs, who are the No. 1 seed in Class B.
Tobias Harris, Half Hollow Hills West: The Tennessee-bound senior showed off his versatility with a triple-double and two double-doubles for the undefeated Colts, the No. 1 seed in Class AA.
Emma O'Connor, Kellenberg: O'Connor had 13 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists, six blocks and four steals in a 58-50 win over St. Mary's and 25 points, 13 rebounds, six steals and four assists in a 46-37 win over St. Anthony's.
Kaleigh Craig, Wantagh: Sophomore Kaleigh Craig had a career-high 27 points and added 12 rebounds to lead Wantagh over Seaford in the first round of the Class A playoffs.
Stefanie Klapper, Roslyn: Klapper had 24 of her 29 points in a 31-21 second half for Roslyn in a 53-44 win over New Hyde Park in the first round of the Nassau Class A playoffs. She added 13 rebounds.
Steve Seidelmeyer, St. Anthony's: The junior made 21 out of 23 saves to lead St. Anthony's over Fordham
Prep in a 6-2 win in the Division A hockey semifinals.
Kevin Harvey, Calhoun: Harvey took first in the 3,200 and the 1,600 meters at the Nassau Class A boys track championships.
Colby Lubman, Commack: She took first in the 55-meter dash and the 300 at the Suffolk state girls track qualifier.
