Ben Roethlisberger apologizes for criticizing Todd Haley
Ben Roethlisberger doesn't think he and Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley have to be best friends to co-exist.
But Big Ben also knows he can't start calling Haley out when things don't go as planned, no matter how much the quarterback may disagree with the playcalling. It's why Roethlisberger apologized yesterday to Haley, coach Mike Tomlin and owner Art Rooney II after making pointed remarks about the direction of the offense following Sunday's 27-24 overtime loss to Dallas.
"I let my frustrations jump out after a game. I don't usually do that," Roethlisberger said. "Usually, I keep it under control. I was just frustrated with myself, and I'll be better at that."
Roethlisberger passed for 339 yards and two touchdowns but also threw an interception to cornerback Brandon Carr early in overtime that set up the winning field goal.
RG3 practices with starters
Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III went through a regular full practice with first-team receivers for the first time since spraining his right knee Dec. 9. Griffin said he ran plays at full speed, hoping to persuade doctors to clear him for Sunday's game against the Eagles.
"I'm ready to play whenever they want me to play," Griffin said.
Coach Mike Shanahan said doctors will see how the rookie star's knee responds to the practice. "Hopefully, they'll look at it tomorrow and tell us it is full-go," Shanahan said.
Around the league
Eagles coach Andy Reid said running back LeSean McCoy will start against the Redskins after missing four games because of a concussion . . . The Colts are hopeful that coach Chuck Pagano will be back on the sideline Dec. 30 for the first time since late September. Soon afterward, Pagano began chemotherapy treatments in his battle against leukemia.
