Boss benched, Ballard breaks out
There was plenty of speculation that the Giants' offense would suffer a major setback with the free agent loss of Kevin Boss, who signed a four-year, $16 million deal with the Raiders.
As it turned out, though, the Boss loss turned out to be an opportunity for Jake Ballard, who spent most of last season on the Giants' practice squad.
Ballard has gradually seen more action in the passing game, and he was at his best in Sunday's 24-20 win over the Patriots. He had a critical third-down reception on the Giants' final drive, and made the winning touchdown catch in the final second.
Boss, meanwhile, was benched for most of Sunday's loss to the Broncos. He only played on special teams, and seemed befuddled afterward.
"I was surprised," Boss told reporters. "Coach's decision.
