Kevin Boss signed a free agent deal with the Raiders after his agent initially told the Giants he'd accept their offer, but the tight end won't be playing for a while after suffering a sprained knee in Saturday night's preseason game against the 49ers.

Per Steve Corkran of the Oakland Tribune, Boss will be out on a week-to-week basis. He was hit in the knee by the helmet of a 49ers' defender after making a catch.

The Raiders signed Boss to a deal that included an $8 million guarantee. That was too much for the Giants to handle, and they opted not to match it. The Raiders needed a quality tight end after losing Zach Miller to the Seahawks in free agency.

The Raiders are very thin at tigth end without Boss. Left on the roster are Brandon Myers, Kevin Brock and rookies David Ausberry and Richard Gordon.
