Brees' 2 TD passes lead Saints past Steelers

Drew Brees passed for 305 yards and two touchdowns as the Saints defeated the Steelers, 20-10, last night in New Orleans.

Brees was 20-for-22 for 191 yards in the second half, breaking open a defensive struggle in which neither team scored a touchdown through the first three quarters.

Brees' first TD went to Marques Colston for 16 yards and the second for 8 yards to Lance Moore with 2:37 left.

Leigh Torrence then intercepted Ben Roethlisberger to seal it for the Saints (5-3).

Rashard Mendenhall had the only touchdown for Pittsburgh (5-2) on a 38-yard run in the fourth quarter. Roethlisberger threw for 195 yards in a matchup of the past two Super Bowl champs.

Dolphins 22, Bengals 14Dan Carpenter's five field goals were enough for the NFL's new kings of the road. Carpenter kicked five for the second game in a row as the Dolphins (4-3) improved to 4-0 on the road. Everything goes Miami's way when it's away.

The Bengals (2-5) were shut out in the second half and suffered their fourth straight loss.

Carpenter was perfect from 38, 42, 24, a career-best 54 and 31 yards. He's the ninth kicker since 1950 to make 10 field goals in back-to-back games, according to STATS LLC. No kicker has more.

Carpenter's leg has guided Miami through an unusual start - 4-0 on the road, 0-3 at home. It got Miami past a bizarre play that could have turned the game.

Late in the second quarter, Carson Palmer severely underthrew a long pass to Terrell Owens. The ball went right into the arms of safety Chris Clemons and went through his arms, off his chest, off his thigh, and off his hand as he fell. The ball ended up in Owens' arms, and he jogged the last few steps to complete a 37-yard TD, smiling and nodding over the good fortune.

Bucs 38, Cardinals 35Aqib Talib intercepted two passes, returning one 45 yards for a touchdown and saving the game with the other, and Tampa Bay rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit for the fourth time this season.

The Bucs (5-2) won their fifth straight on the road dating to last season and moved into a tie with idle Atlanta for first in the NFC South.

Derek Anderson replaced Max Hall after the Cardinals' rookie had two early interceptions returned for scores. Anderson rallied Arizona (3-4) from a 17-point deficit to take a 35-31 lead with 9:41 to play.

Chargers 33, Titans 25Philip Rivers threw a go-ahead, 48-yard touchdown to Antonio Gates midway through the third quarter for host San Diego. The Chargers (3-5) snapped a three-game slide and beat Tennessee (5-3) for the eighth straight time.

Tennessee's Vince Young injured his left ankle scrambling with less than six minutes to play and had to be helped off the field. Kerry Collins moved the Titans to the Chargers' 15 before Chris Johnson dropped a pass on fourth-and-2 with 30 seconds left.

Lions 37, Redskins 25Matthew Stafford, playing for the first time since being hurt in Week 1, threw four TD passes, three to Calvin Johnson, for host Detroit (2-5). With the Redskins (4-4) behind 31-25, Mike Shanahan benched Donovan McNabb in favor of Rex Grossman. He fumbled on his first play, and Ndamukong Suh ran it in for the clinching TD.

Shanahan said Grossman was more comfortable with the 2-minute offense. "I thought that was the best scenario for us to win," he said.

Raiders 33, Seahawks 3Jason Campbell threw for 310 yards and two TDs, and Oakland's defense delivered one of its best performances in years. Darren McFadden ran for 111 yards as the host Raiders (4-4) reached .500 this late in the season for the first time since 2002. Despite the blowout, Seattle (4-3) remained in first in the NFC West.

Rams 20, Panthers 10Sam Bradford threw two TD passes for St. Louis, which forced four turnovers by Carolina (1-6). The Rams, who were 1-15 last season, are 4-4, with all of their wins at home.

49ers 24, Broncos 16Troy Smith, in his first start as a 49er, threw for a TD and ran for one as San Francisco (2-6) won in London. Rookie Tim Tebow's 1-yard run produced the only touchdown for Denver (2-6).

Ryan Succop kicked a 34-yard field goal as time expired in overtime as host Kansas City (5-2) handed Buffalo (0-7) its second consecutive OT loss. - AP
