Cards' Skelton is Brady's equal
Well, at least Cardinals rookie John Skelton has something in common with Tom Brady. When Skelton won his first NFL start, beating the Broncos, 43-13, he equaled Brady's feat of being the last quarterback to have his team score at least 43 points in his first NFL start.
Brady led the Patriots to a 44-13 win over the Colts on Sept. 30, 2001, as he embarked on what eventually became a Hall of Fame-caliber career.
Skelton's goals are much more modest, at least for now. But he did put Fordham back on the map with his start. He became the first Fordham quarterback to take a snap in the NFL since Ed Danowski played with the Giants in 1941.
Skelton threw for more than 300 yards eight times in 11 games for Fordham in 2009, setting a school record with 420 yards against Cornell last season. His five touchdown passes that game were one short of the school record.
