Chargers franchise Vincent Jackson
Yesterday, the Patriots placed the franchise tag on guard Logan Mankins despite the fact Mankins staged a protracted contract holdout last season.
Today, the Chargers made a similar move, placing the franchise tag on wide receiver Vincent Jackson, who played in only five games last year.
The Chargers made Jackson, 28, a non-exclusive franchise player, whi means he can negotiate with other teams. If he gets an offer from another team, the Chargers can match the offer or else receive two first-round picks as compensation. The Chargers can also negotiate a long-term contract with Jackson.
"Vincent has been a valuable contributor to our team," general manager A.J. Smith said. "We want him to be a Charger."
