CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Rams defensive end Chris Long has been ejected from Sunday's game against the Panthers after throwing a punch at Carolina offensive lineman Chris Scott during the third quarter.

A melee involving several players ensued after Panthers offensive tackle and Rams defensive end Robert Quinn got into a shoving match after the completion of a play.

More than a dozen players joined in a fracas, including Long.

Long was ejected after officials ruled he threw a punch amid a pile of players.

After the flag was thrown Carolina tight end Ben Hartsock mockingly tried to escort Long to the locker room, pointing in that direction.

The 15-yard penalty led to a field goal giving the Panthers a 20-5 lead.
