Chuck Cecil was a dirty player; is he now a dirty coach?

During his NFL career with the Packers, Phoenix Cardinals and Houston Oilers, safety Chuck Cecil was known for his hard hits - and his dirty ones, too.

Cecil frequently launched himself at running backs and receivers, and was fined multiple times during his career. He was considered one of the league's dirtiest players, as his playing style invited frequent criticism.

It also resulted in frequent concussions, which eventually forced him into retirement.

Cecil is now the Titans' defensive coordinator, and some of the same questions about his playing style are coming up with his coaching style.

Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton said shortly after Denver's road win in Tennessee yesterday that the Titans cross the line.

"You always hear about how tough they are and all that stuff," Orton said. "I don't think they're tough. I think they're cheap, and it was one of the cheapest games that I've ever seen out of some of those players. I thought the refs did a good job of keeping it under control."

Orton also went off on cornerback Cortland Finnegan, and accused him of punching Broncos guard Chris Kuper on a player where Kuper's helmet came off.

"It's ridiculous," Orton said. "If that is the type of player Cortland Finnegan wants to be, then he is a cheap player, he is not a good player."

The NFL will no doubt examine video replay of the incident. And league officials will also look at Cecil himself. After a penalty was called on the Titans' defense, Cecil reacted by offering "the No. 1 sign" to the officials. Of course, most people use their index finger when referencing No. 1. Cecil chose to use the finger next door.
