NEW ORLEANS — Doug Williams became the first African American quarterback to win the Super Bowl when the Redskins beat the Broncos in Super Bowl XXII.

Twenty five years later, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick said it would be special to equal Williams’ ground- breaking accomplishment.

“It’s a great opportunity to show it doesn’t matter what your skin color is,” Kaepernick said last night, shortly after the 49ers arrived in New Orleans. “You can do anything.”
