Favre's agent: Money not the issue

Brett Favre's agent, Bus Cook, said any reluctance on Favre's part about returning for the 2010 season has nothing to do with wanting to get more money from the Vikings.

With the Vikings reportedly offering additional financial incentives over and above the $13 million Favre is scheduled to make this year, Cook told the NFL Network's Steve Mariucci that money isn't the issue.

Favre himself said in a brief interview today after visiting a practice with a local football team in his hometown of Hattiesburg, Miss., "It's not about the money."

Cook told Mariucci in a statement that Favre's ankle is the only issue in play here. Cook said Favre will meet next week with Dr. James Andrews, who performed ankle surgery in May on Favre.

"As far as Brett is concerned, in spite of reports to the contrary, Brett's situation has nothing to do with his contract, but everything to do with his health and ability to contribute to that team and play at a level that he has been accustomed to playing over the years," Cook said. "Brett's ankle, which needed surgery since 2007, was surgically repaired this last spring by Dr. James Andrews. Until such time, Brett feels he can play at a level that he expects of himself, no decision will be made.

"Brett has an appointment to see Dr. Andrews next week and will know more at that time. Brett continues working every day, rehabbing his ankle and will see after his visit with Dr. Andrews what his status is at that time."

Favre made an appearance at the Oak Grove High team, briefly tossing the ball, but helping an assistant coach as players went through drills. After practice, Favre got into a pickup truck and said he didn't send text messages to Vikings teammates saying he was going to retire.

Asked about whether he'd return to the NFL, Favre said, "If I'm healthy, sure." The timetable for that, he said, is "up for discussion."
