The Giants began the season believing that they had a dynamic one-two running back punch in Andre Brown and David Wilson. There was even a time in training camp in which the two were listed as co-starters and talk that they might be able to become an NFL rarity: two 1,000-yard rushers from the same backfield. But the season never materialized that way and, as it turned out, neither of them was ever healthy enough to be activated with the other in the same game.

Now that their futures are somewhat uncertain – Wilson’s neck injury at least clouds the possibility of his future in professional football and Brown is set to become a free agent after this season – Brown thinks that the two have some unfinished business that they’d like to complete. Or at least begin.

“Me and Dave, we set big goals for us to go out there,” Brown said on Wednesday. “But I start out injured and when I come back he gets injured. It’s sad. But it is what it is. Hopefully whatever happens we get to come together and play again.”

Brown certainly made better use of the little time he spent on the field this season. Despite playing in just five games so far this season he is the team’s leading rusher with 424 yards (more than the 385 he had last year in 10 games) and three touchdowns. Wilson, who played in five games as well, had just 146 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Brown said he’d like to be back with the Giants in 2014, “but you have to let God deal with it.” After a career spent bouncing around the league and fighting through injuries, this could be his first chance to land a somewhat big contract.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to go through a lot of situations like this,” Brown said. “All I can do is go out there and control my game on the field, put that on tape and let everything else fall into place.”
