Backup QB Sorgi has rough start at camp
ALBANY - Jim Sorgi's first few days as a Giant have not been pretty.
"A learning process" is how the backup quarterback gingerly described them. They included a false start and a timeout he called on his very first 11-on-11 snaps earlier in the week, blotches of confusion during the next few practices, and chaos at the line of scrimmage Tuesday when his group tried to get realigned and then suffered a botched snap.
"You think you've got something and you go out there confident, and then you realize there are just a lot of little things in the offense you don't know yet," Sorgi said.
Sorgi, who was Peyton Manning's backup for six years in Indianapolis, has been with the Giants for most of the spring. But this is the first time he's experienced such struggles with his new team.
"It might have been going along too good," he said. "Things have been going well and the more and more you put in from the playbook the more and more you have to remember."
Boss' ankle passes tests
Kevin Boss didn't look like a guy taking his first snaps since ankle surgery when he was diving around the field and rolling on the ground.
"The biggest thing right now is getting confidence back in it and being able to trust that you can do the things that you did before," he said. "In the heat of the moment, you don't really think of it. You see the ball and you go up for it. So it's been good to roll around a little bit and jump around and be able to jump back up and feel pretty good."
Boss still looks a little sluggish running because he missed his offseason conditioning after his May surgery, but that will come. For now, the important part is that he and the joint appear to be as rugged as ever.
