Compounding the loss of Kevin Boss was Tom Coughlin’s announcement today that tackle Will Beatty suffered a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot and will need surgery to repair it. He’ll be out indefinitely.

That means the Giants are without Boss and without the guy on the team who took his spot on run blocking plays. It also means the Giants do not have a true backup tackle.

“We’re just going to have to maneuver around,” Coughlin said.

A natural move would be to elevate Bear Pascoe from the practice squad, but Coughlin said the staff had not yet met to discuss any roster changes.

"Let’s wait and see," Coughlin said. "Let’s wait and talk about that. We’re going to need help there."

Pascoe said that he has not been told anything. At least not since he was waived last weekend and signed to the practice squad.

“Coach Coughlin told me ‘I want you to prepare like you’re going to play each week because you never know what’s going to happen,’” Pascoe said today. “I said ‘OK,’ and that was where we left it.”

The Giants could also put Shawn Andrews in at left guard and move Rich Seubert into Beatty’s blocking position. But Andrews is probably the only other guy on the team outside of the starters who can play tackle.

So yes, there will have to be some maneuvering around. Not only on the roster but on the field as well.

By the way, we saw Beatty after the game with a boot on his right foot. At the time he said he had had several sets of X-rays on the foot and the first images seemed like everything would be OK. Just some ice and rest, he thought. He was excited about playing more tight end and even catching a pass eventually. He said the injury happened sometime in the fourth quarter when he had his foot stepped on, but he didn't recall the exact play.

"He walked into the locker room after the game and just said ‘My foot’s sore,’" Coughlin said.
