ALBANY - Backup quarterback Jim Sorgi said the MRI he had this week showed a tear in the anterior capsule of his throwing shoulder that makes it painful for him to raise his arm. He can throw a football underhand without issue, he said, but not overhand.
"It ended up being a lot worse of an injury [than I thought]," Sorgi said.
Reports Thursday that sourced Sorgi's agent indicated that he will miss two to three weeks with the injury. Tom Coughlin said Friday that that is in line with what doctors have told him.
"Our feelings are the same," Coughlin said, "that he does have a couple of weeks, maybe three weeks.''
Eli still in stitches
Eli Manning was not with the team during the final walk-through of training camp here. He was in Manhattan having the 12 stitches in his head examined by head trainer Ronnie Barnes.
"They're going to decide how they want to do that, if they're going to adjust that at all," Coughlin said.
Giant steps
Coughlin said guards Chris Snee (knee) and Rich Seubert (hand), S Michael Johnson (back) and WR Ramses Barden (back) will not play Saturday against the Steelers . . . The Giants will use breakout WR Victor Cruz on special teams Saturday, returning both punts and kickoffs . . . To make room on the roster for Shawn Andrews, the Giants waived OL Cliff Louis.
