For a guy who entered the night with 11 career rushes for 25 yards and two receptions for 13, it was a heck of a game for Giants reserve running back Da'Rel Scott.

After David Wilson was benched for fumbling twice in the Giants' season-opening 36-31 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday night, Scott came in and played capably, rushing five times for 23 yards and catching five passes for 51.

"I felt like I did my part, ran hard, got the yards I could,'' he said. "I felt I caught the ball good and ran the ball good when I got the opportunity.''

But it all went wrong in the end, when a short throw from Eli Manning after the two-minute warning bounced off Scott and into the hands of the Cowboys' Brandon Carr, who returned the ball 49 yards for the clinching score.

"It is a terrible feeling, seeing that,'' Scott said. "It hurt a lot. We had a chance to win. Just choked. I have to bounce back from it, put it behind me and go from there to next week.''

Manning called the play "just a bad break. Had a screen called and it was kind of sit there and pop it to him and make a little move, and unfortunately it hit off his arm and gets intercepted.''

Scott called it a "miscommunication and just didn't work out our way . . . I knew what the play was. I knew what was going to happen. Just a miscommunication with the ball.''

Scott said he could have moved into a better position so as not to "confuse'' Manning regarding his location.

With Wilson's status uncertain, Scott could play a significant role moving forward. But he said he will do what he can to bolster Wilson's spirits.

"We have to have each other's back,'' he said. "I have his back no matter what, and I know he has mine. We will try to stay on top of him and we'll bounce back next week for sure. He is a hell of a back and we need him on our team.''
