The Giants came into training camp with one of the deepest defensive lines in the league. It’s getting shallower by the day.

Today the team issued a medical update on four players along the front line, three of whom were expected to make contributions to the team this season.

Veteran DT Shaun Rogers is being treated for a blood clot in his lower leg, the Giants said. It’s unclear what that means in terms of his availability for the rest of the year.

DE Justin Trattou, who injured his ankle early in training camp, is “still experiencing issues with his heel” and the Giants say he is not expected back on the field for several weeks.

DT Marvin Austin, who has not played in an actual game in almost three years, is being examined today for a back issue at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Austin practiced yesterday, so that issue must have sprung up since then.

While those three players wait in limbo to see how the heal and recover and possibly return, it’s fair to say that Martin Parker’s season is over. The defensive tackle has a herniated disc in his back which will require surgery.

Add that to Chris Canty being on the PUP list and all of a sudden there are some questions about who can play along the defensive line.
