Giants center O'Hara to miss time with foot sprain
Just as Shaun O'Hara appeared to be getting a step ahead of the ankle and Achilles injury that have bugged him since the start of training camp, another injury has derailed him. The veteran center missed yesterday's first practice after the bye while wearing a protective boot on his right foot. Tom Coughlin said O'Hara suffered a "mild mid-foot sprain" in the game against the Cowboys last week.
According to a source, the sprain is to the Lisfranc ligament and will not require surgery. O'Hara is expected to miss 2-4 weeks and likely will be replaced by Adam Koets against the Seahawks on Sunday.
Beatty on the field
Tackle Will Beatty was on the practice field for the first time since fracturing a bone in his foot in the season opener and having surgery. He did some jogging and agility drills off to the side while the rest of the team worked out. Beatty was happy with the progress, calling his activity "a good sign."
"Each day we're just going to progress slowly and slowly until hopefully, I get back on the field soon," he said. The plan is for that to happen within the month, he added.
Tuck: Giants miss Kiwi
The team came together after the bye Monday, and it was also the first time they were without Mathias Kiwanuka. The defensive end with a herniated disc in his neck was placed on season-ending injured reserve Thursday. "He's a huge talent and he's going to be missed," Justin Tuck said. "Somebody is going to have to step up and try to fill that void. It's a huge void, and right now, we just wish him all the best in his recovery. We hope to get him back next year."
Giant steps
Cornerback Bruce Johnson had arthroscopic surgery on his knee last week and was placed on injured reserve Monday. The Giants were awarded defensive end Alex Hall off waivers from Arizona . . . Seattle starting quarterback Matt Hasselbeck suffered a "slight concussion" in Sunday's loss to the Raiders and his status for the game against the Giants isn't clear . . . The Giants have lost their previous four games in Seattle.
