Giants' Corey Washington ready for Arizona in Week 2

Corey Washington hasn’t made the Week 1 roster for the Giants yet, but he’s already looking forward to Week 2.
That’s when the Giants play the Cardinals, the team that signed and waived the rookie wide receiver from Division II Newberry in a span of 15 days this spring.
“Oh yeah, that put a chip on my shoulder,” Washington said on Sunday. “I have a big chip on my shoulder coming over here to show those guys what I can do … I’m ready for that game. I got that game dotted on the calendars. Cell phone, iPad, everything.”
Washington was claimed by the Giants off waivers and has emerged as a big target and a big storyline for the team this summer, catching four touchdowns in four games, three of which were game-winners. He was projected as a player who could be on the Giants’ practice squad this season and develop his skills, but his performance this preseason has blown away that possibility.
He’d have to clear waivers to reach the Giants practice squad. The Giants are unlikely to risk that, so they’ll probably keep him on the 53-man roster that will be announced next weekend.
That’s a far cry from the day he was waived in Arizona in May.
“I was surprised,” Washington said. “They called me in the office right after practice and I had a good practice that day, that whole week. They told me and I was shocked. I was like, 'Wow. Ok.'”
He called his agent, flew home to South Carolina, and was claimed by the Giants.
“I flew up here, practiced that Friday,” Washington said, “and been here ever since.”
