RUN CONTROL
Daniel Jones’ legs have been one of the Giants’ best weapons. He is second on the team with 236 rushing yards, including two touchdowns. But if it seems the Giants have called fewer designed runs for him in the two weeks since he sprained an ankle against the Bears . . . it’s because they have.
Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka acknowledged that Jones’ ankle has been a consideration in play-calling – along with normal scheme and game plan concerns. “I think it’s a little bit of both,” he said. “I think you want to be careful just to make sure he’s right. I think that element of his game is something that makes him special, his ability to get out, and that certainly causes issues for defenses. He’s making smart decisions in that aspect in the run game, and I think he’s an element that you don’t want to take it away fully but just be smart and calculated with him.”
Jones’ six rushing yards against the Ravens last week were a season low, and his six attempts tied his season low.
SHOULDERING PAIN
Saquon Barkley has left each of the last games with a sprained right shoulder, then returned and scored the winning touchdowns. For now, he plans to play through the pain, but it does not appear the pain will go away anytime soon. “It’s annoying, but it’s not something that’s going to stop me from going out there and being able to produce,” he said.
