Giants owners John Mara and Steve Tisch say they are as disappointed as fans are about the current state of the NFL and its labor negotiations.

The two sent a letter to season-ticket holders Saturday and had the letter posted on the team's website. On Friday, the NFL Players Association decertified and the owners followed by locking out the players in the NFL's first labor stoppage in 24 years.

"We are not happy about that and we certainly understand and appreciate your unhappiness and frustration," the letter reads. "Where we are today serves no positive purpose for you, for our players and for the National Football League."

The letter also tells fans that "the last thing" the owners wanted is for "the business end of our sport to play out this way.''

"We know people frankly don't care how owners and players manage their business. These negotiations distract and detract from what is most important to all of us: the game."

The letter closed by saying that the Giants' owners are doing all they can to return the focus "to where it belongs, the field of play."
