Phil Simms, Tiki Barber, Michael Strahan and Bill Parcells will be among 30 honorees Sunday night when the Giants unveil their Ring of Honor at New Meadowlands Stadium. The full list of inductees will be made public at halftime of the nationally televised game against the Bears, but the Giants have announced six of them: the above four plus Frank Gifford and Pete Gogolak.
"The Ring of Honor and a Hall of Fame are elements that have been discussed for quite some time," team president and CEO John Mara said. "For many years fans have asked us why we had neither, and our response always was that we would when either Giants Stadium undergoes a refurbishing or we have a new stadium."
The names will be displayed in the end zones of the stadium during Giants events. Of course when the Jets play there, their Ring of Honor names will take the place of the Giants. But the Giants will have their Legacy Club inside the stadium, a museum to their history that will not be covered over in green every other Sunday.
O'Hara still bothered
Shaun O'Hara has said that the only thing that helps the tendinosis in his left Achilles is rest. Apparently that hasn't done the trick this time. After missing a week of practice and Sunday's game, O'Hara's injury is still an issue. He remains in a protective boot and is now seeing more doctors about the situation.
"I'm not sure where this is going to lead," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said.
O'Hara was replaced by Adam Koets at center on Sunday. Tom Coughlin said Koets "was pretty solid in there."
"I'm preparing to play and play every game," Koets said. "That's the way I approach it."
