Giants to open 2016 NFL season in Dallas

Ben McAdoo’s first game as coach of the Giants will be in enemy territory.
The Giants will open their 2016 schedule with a trip to Dallas to face the Cowboys, the fourth straight season they will open on the road and the second consecutive season they will open at AT&T Stadium.
The Giants will also play five prime-time games and close their regular season with back-to-back division road games.
“It’s a great opportunity opening the season at Dallas,” McAdoo said. “All of us in the building are looking forward to it.”
The NFL announced the schedule on Thursday, but the Giants already knew when one of their games would take place. Their contest against the Rams in London on Oct. 23 was set months ago. They will receive their bye in Week 8 when they return from London.
“The bye comes at a perfect time, around the midpoint of the season, and after a trip to London, which is a tremendous opportunity, and exciting for us,” McAdoo said. “It’s good for the league, and it’s good for the Giants and the Rams to play overseas. The bye coming right after it, followed by three home games vs. three good opponents in a row will be exciting for us, especially with the Monday night game against Cincinnati.”
The Giants play back-to-back road games in a six-day span against NFC North opponents in Weeks 4 and 5 with a Monday night game in Minnesota followed by a Sunday night game in Green Bay that will pit McAdoo against his mentor, Packers coach Mike McCarthy.
Each team must play on Thursday night once each season, and the Giants must wait until Week 16 for their slot this season. They’ll be in Philadelphia for that game and then close the schedule on New Year’s Day in Washington.
“It’s an exciting time in the offseason with the schedule being released,” McAdoo said. “We’re certainly going to take them one at a time. But playing the AFC North and the NFC North, two divisions that are very competitive, not to mention the NFC East, will be a huge challenge for us.”
