Ben McAdoo vs. Teryl Austin

It will be rookie vs. rookie when the Giants have the ball as first-time offensive coordinator McAdoo locks intellectual horns with first-time defensive coordinator Austin. Tom Coughlin said the Giants "looked at everything" they could find to try to break down the new play-callers for the Lions (offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi also is new). "We looked up their birthdates," he said. McAdoo presents a similar challenge for the Lions, who have been studying Packers games for a hint of what's to come. "It's kind of a guessing game," Austin said. "I think it's the same both ways."

Fun Fact

The Giants have the second-most wins in road openers in NFL history (49). Only the Packers have more with 53. The Giants also have the second-highest winning percentage in road openers among teams with at least 16 such games (49-35, .583) trailing only the Cowboys (33-21, .611).
