Brandon Jacobs had 10 carries yesterday for 41 yards and in the last two games he’s had a combined 16 carries for 103 yards (that’s 6.4 yards per carry). Not bad for a backup running back.

But Jacobs is saying that he’s in a much better place mentally these days. Throughout his entire career he has grappled with the fact that he is a big, bruising running back. Just because he does have speed and can make cuts and moves, doesn’t always mean that he should. It now seems – through his public comments at least – that Jacobs is finally getting a little more comfortable with his identity as a bruiser. Heck, he even lined up at fullback on one play yesterday.

He still likes getting his carries, though, and he’s glad the Giants continue to have faith in him.

“It means a lot to me,” he said. “It lets me know that they still have confidence in me that I can go out there and get it done. I know I can get out there and get it done.

“I don’t mind watching Ahmad run, watching him run and turn four yards out of something that was supposed to be nothing. I can’t do that. He’s just so pinball-ish in there where he can make something out nothing and I can’t do that. So when I get my opportunity to get in there and just try to run over somebody and get some yards, that’s just what I do.”
